Otherwise, there is the Econo-Lodge or the Heritage Inn. Since I live in Millinocket, I haven't stayed in either one but I've had family who've stayed in both. I've heard some complaints about the Econo-Lodge but I think it depends on what you're looking for.

The Katahdin Shadows is very nice; it's not in Millinocket, but Medway, a few miles away, toward the Interstate. Baxter State Park itself rents cabins right in the park. I will admit that the first time we made reservations, I was prepared to "rough it," but that was not at all what we did! We stayed at Daicey Pond -- and later Kidney Pond -- on a cabin right on the water.

There is no electricity or running water, but quite honestly, I barely noticed. Bring lanterns, and be secure in the knowledge that each cabin is assigned its own outhouse, which is clean and smells pretty good. You can rent canoes for a couple of dollars a day -- literally -- and cook outside at the water's edge.
